life without time - 2nd version.

as i promised in earlier entry, i have posted the digital files. check the livejournal cut! i can only post 3 spreads i did for the book as the other spreads look weird with the pop-up mechanism flattened. other than that, i have also done up a 2nd version to this set of illustrations without the 2 characters, Pokka and Dot. there are 6 of them and the size is slightly smaller (165 mm by 160 mm)

rationale... or not?
this series of illustrations are set in the fairytale world where time isn't relevant to the colour of the sky outside. that is to say i can read these stories anytime and the time depicted in these stories isn't reflected in reality.

i see a flaw in the title as time doesn't stop. it is constant even if your clock is spoilt. time is always there ticking away. it will never cease to exist. hence, there's a flaw in the title itself and to place this in the fairytale world, it's a flaw within a flaw. this idea is represented by the holes i have placed in every spread in the book.

there are 2 characters i created, Pokka and Dot. basically, they woke up in the world without time, and Pokka was excited with the adventures ahead of them. they visited 6 fairytales and there seemed to be a twist to everyone of them. bearing in mind, time doesn't exist in those stories anymore. after been through those adventurous trips, they got tired and went to bed.

having said all these, the 6 stories i picked are: alice in wonderland, the little matchgirl, the race between the hare and tortoise, cinderella, sleeping beauty and the goose that laid the golden eggs. the stories are actually placed in chronological order. it's deliberate even though there's not supposed to be existence of time. the many ironies =]

morning: woke up.
afternoon: race between the hare and tortoise
mid-afternoon: tea party in alice in wonderland
late-afternoon: goose that laid the golden eggs
evening: the little matchgirl.
night: sleeping beauty.
mid-night: when the clock strikes 12 in cinderella.
morning: back to sleep.

ayumi matchboxes

this particular work is much emphasized on the illustration rendering skills. when the brief was said to come up with a series of design for matchboxes, i had to do ayumi as she's one of my favourite artistes. however, i thought 7 deadly sins will be fun too. so, why not both together?

for the ayumi fans out there, i think it will be easier for you guys to relate to this piece as the designs are mainly album covers. enjoy!

a pop-up book, 400 mm by 200 mm, written, illustrated and made (hard cover too!) by me. how will life be without time? i have placed this concept in the fairytale world. see if you can spot anything familiar in the book. there are 8 spreads inside and 6 stories which you might be able to identify.

this isn't quite the personal style i'm looking into. i'm still exploring and improving on my illustration skills. pardon the low-quality photos that i took at home. i will post the digital files here in time to come. hope you guys will like it. enjoy!

this is a school assignment in which we have to pick one company and do up a series of branding items for them. the logo is not part of the brief, thus it has not been improved. all of the following can be enlarged, except for the poster. enjoy =]

break the norm, go the wrongway

phew. the bg graphic sure took me quite a long while. it's my first time experimenting with this style and i love it. you will see more of these in the future to come. oh yea, school just started and i will try to come up with my branding for this "wrongway" soon. the rationale is already in my mind. it's just that i have to phrase it properly and that will take some time, together with the logo etc.

this will temporary be my portfolio site till i get myself a domain.

gosh. i'm already a senior in my design school.
